Approximately 99% of products benefit from preferential duty-free access under the  Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Mexico - Costa Rica.

Mexico has been an important partner for Costa Rica, both in terms of trade and foreign investment (FDI). Bilateral Trade Mexico - Costa Rica has grown at an average rate of 7.7% per year, from a total of 490 million USD in 1999 to 941 million USD in 2009.

In 2009, Costa Rican exports to the Mexican market reached 195,1 million USD and imports 745.5 million USD.
