Chihuahua represents Mexico’s fifth largest state economy. The Gross
Domestic Product (GDP) of Chihuahua was exceeded 371 billion pesos in 2010, and
contributed 2,97% of Mexico´s national GDP. Chihuahuas’s population accounted
3.2% (3,406,465) of Mexico’s total population in 2009.
Chihuahua is ranked as second place among the states in maquila and
manufacturing foreign direct investment destination. Chihuahua received
1.414 million dollars in Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in 2010 (864 million
dollars in 2009), which represented 8% of FDI received in Mexico (7.6% in
2009). Of all the FDI received by the state, most was directed toward the
manufacturing industry, followed by the mining industry. The State of Chihuahua
has 20 percent of the nation's aerospace jobs.
The state of Chihuahua is:

- First place in personnel employed by manufacturing exports (IME).
- Second place in the reception of FDI (manufacturing sector)
- Second place in maquiladora establishments.

- The cities of Chihuahua and Juarez are the third and ninth in quality of life
of the country.
A maquiladora is a Mexican assembly or manufacturing operation that can
be subject up to 100 percent non-Mexican ownership. A maquiladora utilizes
competitively priced Mexican labor in assembly processing and/or other
manufacturing operations, allowing these operations to bring in most capital
equipment and machinery from abroad.
Chihuahua Capital was among the top 20 cities in Latin America to do
business (source: America Economia Magazine). One of the biggest industries in
Ciudad Juarez is the automotive industry.
Chihuahua is the only state in Mexico to have two cities ranked in the top 20
most populated. El Paso and Ciudad Juárez comprise one of the largest
bi-national metropolitan areas in the world with a combined population of
2.4 million people.

Interceramic began operations in Chihuahua, Mexico in 1979 as a
ceramic tile manufacturing company with the most innovative technology at the
time. Today it is one of the largest ceramic tile manufacturers in North America
with a total production capacity of approximately 450 million sq ft per year in
nine facilities housed in four different manufacturing complexes: three in
Chihuahua, Mexico and one in Garland, TX in the US.

Grupo Bafar is one of the leading companies in the Mexican food
industry; they integrate the production, distribution and sale of food
products, with a solid share within domestic and international markets.
Sales for the second quarter of 2011 amounted to $1,482 million pesos (U.S.
$122.9), compared to $1,407 million pesos (U.S. $110.1) from the same period
last year, a growth of 5.3% (11.6% in USD). This growth was driven by the 3%
increase in sales volume.
