Organization of American States OEA. The OAS is the
region’s principal multilateral forum for strengthening democracy, promoting
human rights, and confronting shared problems such as poverty, terrorism,
illegal drugs and corruption. It plays a leading role in carrying out
mandates established by the hemisphere’s leaders through the Summits of the
Americas.
The Central America-Dominican Republic-United States Free
Trade Agreement (CAFTA). The Central America-Dominican Republic-United
States Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA-DR) includes seven signatories: the
United States, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala,
Honduras, and Nicaragua.
Secretariat for Central American Economic Integration (SIECA).
The Secretariat for SIECA is a technical and regional organization
constituted as a legal entity which main function is to assist technically
and administratively the Central American economic integration process
promoted by the Central American Integration System (SICA).
The Puebla-Panama Plan PPP (in Spanish). Is a project
whit the objective to open up the southern of Mexico and Central America to
private foreign investment and establishing the foundation for the Free
Trade Area of the Americas.
Latin American and Caribbean Economic System (SELA).
Is a regional intergovernmental organization that groups 26 Latin American
and Caribbean countries. Current membership includes
Argentina, Bahamas,
Barbados, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Chile,
Ecuador, Guatemala, Guyana, Haiti, Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua,
Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Suriname, Trinidad & Tobago,
Uruguay and Venezuela.
ASSOCIATION OF CARIBBEAN STATES (ACS). The Convention
Establishing the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) was signed on 24 July
1994 in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, with the aim of promoting
consultation, cooperation and concerted action among all the countries of
the Caribbean, comprising 25 Member States and three Associate Members.
CARICOM is mainly the English-speaking Caribbean. It has 15 members, and
approximately 13 million people. The ACS represents the Greater Caribbean,
25 members, and 3 Associate Members, and 237 million people.
